Dartmoor National Park

A new self-build family home, on the edge of Dartmoor, for a Private Client.

Our Clients’ brief was to create a new self-build family home on a green field site near Yelverton, for themselves and their three children. The accommodation includes 6 bedrooms, 5 if which have ensuite bathrooms, with two of the bedrooms at ground floor level to accommodate the needs of one of the children who had a slight disability. Other accommodation includes a double height entrance hall, Living Room, Dining Room, open plan kitchen / family room, and a play / storage room above an integral double garage.

During the design development we engaged extensively with the Local Authority Planning Department, as well as the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, who assisted in the development of a design proposal specifically addressing and mitigating impact on the landscape, and use of local materials. This was also examined and demonstrated through an independent Landscape & Visual Impact Assessment, which concluded that with the extensive additional planting and landscaping proposed to be added to the site, there would be no harm to the AONB.

During the design development we modelled the proposal in our BIM software which also enabled our client and their family to view the proposed rooms and spaces in Virtual Reality.

“We have used ADG Architects of Plymouth who have been extremely good. The architects we’ve worked with, Dan Stewart, is knowledgeable, patient, helpful and thorough, and his designs have gone down well with the AONB. I would thoroughly recommend them”
