Spa & Leisure Extension,
ADG were appointed to develop the design for an extension to the existing Georgian property, providing a new leisure facility for private use by the homeowner and their family.
The project also included the adaptation of the ground floor living space within the existing rear ‘cottage’ structure to provide an associated home gymnasium and workout area.
The brief was to create a high quality, fabric first, energy efficient design, to house a new spa, pools and gym.
The project entailed the creation of a new single storey home spa extension to accommodate a resistance pool, hydrotherapy pool, steam room and sauna, with a central, open shower area. A new workshop was also created at the northern end to replace the existing space.
The palette of external materials was kept intentionally simple, with two main materials being adopted for the walls. Powder coated aluminium framed glazing was applied mainly at the southwest corner to take advantage of the orientation towards the sun and views. The larger part of the extension was faced with high quality hardwood cladding, fixed horizontally.
Randomly laid reclaimed stone, some of which came from the previously demolished workshop structure, was used to frame the feature glazing.
“Thank you again for all your help in making this happen, the design looks great and it really makes the most of the views of the Blackdown Hills. We look forward to enjoying the spa for many years to come!”
