Golf Clubhouse Concept
The concept is for a new clubhouse and provides an opportunity to add holiday and recreation accommodation. This process will provide multiple benefits and create a destination venue.
In short, the proposed aspirational concept is to create a vibrant, welcoming place that mixes appropriate facilities for Golf and other activities with visitors, supporting the local tourist industry and wider surrounding environment, whilst continuing to support the existing membership with a view to increasing this steadily over the next 10+ years.
The upper ground floor level would provide most of the ‘public’ areas including reception, pro shop, meeting room, bars, and restaurant. The lower ground floor would provide the functional accommodation including kitchen, bar stores, plant, and members changing rooms. A vehicular entrance is located at lower ground floor, providing access for deliveries to the kitchen and bars, as well as secure concealed storage for golf buggies and refuse.
The mixing of existing club uses with proposed additional holiday type accommodation, would provide day-long activity and natural surveillance of the surrounding areas. The new holiday chalet areas should provide a good combination of tranquillity and activity, allowing customers to have private, safe space whilst feeling a part of the local surroundings.
The concept offers the following:
- Areas for rest and recreation with holiday homes / chalets
- A high quality sustainable, low energy, and low carbon development
- Employment opportunities
- Increased membership take-up
- Increased new membership pricing
- Other facilities or sale of services
- Additional leisure facilities
- Corporate membership
- Corporate events such as weddings, events, etc.
- Opportunities for shared ownership of existing members of chalet accommodation
- Entrance into local or national competitions
- Enhanced Status – attracting external investment
- Enhanced biodiversity and ecology

In developing these concept proposals, an extension and refurbishment was initially considered. However, this would prove to be a complex process and would not easily meet low energy and sustainable targets. It would also not provide the ability to incorporate the opportunities as listed above, which would create a replacement new build, aspirational venue.
In general, the proposals for the clubhouse seek to provide replacement facilities, with the proposed design focussing on a low energy, fabric first, sustainable design approach. As such the plan form is as compact as possible, responding to the fall of the land, and spread over two levels.
