This project involves the renovation, extension, and conversion of an existing ‘Coach House’ at the rear of a Grade II Listed Georgian terraced house in Plymouth, for a Private Client. Our Clients’ brief was to convert their coach house from its existing use as a store room and garages, into a self-contained annexe and holiday let.
Careful attention to detail, and extensive negotiations with the Local Authority Planning Department and Conservation Officer were required due to its proximity to the Listed Building, and its setting within a Conservation Area.
Our Client brief was to take advantage of the some fantastic views up the river Tamar, and create a contemporary, exciting space. We developed a series of sketch ideas which revolved into the final proposals. These include raising the existing roof level, to create a single open plan ‘living space’, with additional ‘sleeping pod’ at mezzanine level (with rooflight to take advantage of those wonderful views).
A small extension has been added to the rear to provide an additional small bedroom, bathroom, and utility space. At ground floor level the existing garage will be renovated and retained for parking and storage.
“ADG architects offered us a considered, thoughtful design having listened to our requirements and understood our needs of the building. At each stage of the process, they offered sound advice, assisting us where we required slight changes as the build developed. The end result is testament to the initial design and we are very pleased with it, and would highly recommend ADG to others.”
