ADG proudly won a design and tender competition in association with Devington Homes. The prestigious apartment development is located on Plymouth Hoe, on a prominent site once occupied by the Royal Western Yacht Club. The plan comprises three separate sets of linked apartments with spacious terraces, many of which provide far-reaching views due south across the Sound. Azure Apartments consists of six storeys at the front and four at the rear, with a four storey underground car park for 153 vehicles.
We felt it was important that the facades reflected the scale and pattern of the neighbouring Grand Hotel and nearby streets, whilst being contemporary in design, an approach which was fully supported by Historic England. This design direction was strengthened by the use of high quality materials, including stone cladding and polished masonry blockwork. The scheme also includes tranquil garden spaces designed by local firm Rathbone Partnership. The gardens inject welcomed green space into this otherwise urban setting.
The northern terrace of properties was designed to reflect the pattern and scale of other streets within the West Hoe area, creating a rhythmical and relatively grand façade that echoes the proportions of the town houses in this part of Plymouth.
