Mount Wise, Studio 5-11 and the Women's Refuge receive high commendation at this years Abercrombie Awards...
The Abercrombie Awards are a celebration of planning and design excellence within Plymouth and the effort that has gone into improving Plymouth over recent years.
This years event saw three of ADG's projects up for an award; Mount Wise was in the Best New Housing Project category, Studio 5-11 was entered into the Best Conversion category and the Women's Refuge was in the Best Smaller Development category. On the night the projects unfortunately didn't win the top spot, however were highly commended by the organisers and sponsors.
ADG were appointed as lead consultant and lead designer for the first two phases at Mount Wise, which will deliver 450 residential units, offices, retail units, a cafe, an hotel and data storage facility. The design approach involved creating a unique environment in a stunning setting which elevated the importance of historic buildings and features and integrating new buildings designed in both traditional and contemporary styles.
Studio 5-11 is a refurbished high quality business centre in the heart of Plymouth. The building was completely refurbished with a highly insulated cladding system and new double glazed thermally broken PPC aluminium windows. An integrated aluminium brise soleil system will provide solar protection to the south fašade. Planning consent was obtained for the conversion of the ground floor into use classes A1 and A2, total lettable area 6,230 sqft. The upper four floors provide 28,320 sqft of lettable offices.
The Women's Refuge is a purpose built building which replaced the previously cramped and out dated accommodation, and is highly contemporary in design on a tight urban site; with an accessible design developed in detailed consultation with service user, both past and present, the police and support staff.
