St Andrews Court is an existing 5 storey office building dating from the 1980s. The building is located within the western edge of the Barbican Conservation Area on Notte St and is bounded on its west and east sides by Finewell Street and St Andrews Street respectively.
Last year ADG obtained planning permission for our client, Developing London, to see this building brought back to life as 21st century office accommodation. The entrance and reception will be moved so that it is approached from the south via a landscaped external space. The current rooftop plant room is to be expanded and converted into additional office accommodation that will be largely glazed to provide views across the city centre roofscape. This will improve the appearance of the building when viewed from higher levels, especially from the south, east and west, by creating a more distinctive element to the skyline than the current unattractive plant room ‘box’.
The intention is to retain the original design elements and improve their appearance and longevity using modern materials and systems. The curtain walling and windows are currently all single glazed and will be replaced with double glazed aluminium equivalents.
The inclusion of street level space that can house premises such as shops, financial services and cafes will provide the potential to bring positive activity uses within greatly improved, landscaped surroundings that will enhance this area of Notte St.
